Behind the camera

I’ve been photographing people since 2011. What I learned is that good pictures don’t happen when you ask someone to smile — they happen when you give them something to do.

So I talk a lot while I shoot. I ask people to move, to turn, to say something to each other. Most of the time it sounds strange. Then you see the photographs.

Many of the families I photograph come back again and again — from the brit, through the chalaka and the bar mitzvah, to the chuppah. That’s the best part of this job.

Questions people ask

How long until I get the photos?

A first gallery within a week, all edited images within three weeks.

Do you shoot outside Jerusalem?

Yes, anywhere in Israel — and abroad when it makes sense. I’ve shot a fair amount in New York.

Can you shoot video too?

Yes, video can be added to any package.

You photographed us before — can we book again?

That’s my favourite part of the job. Many families come back from the brit through to the chuppah, and I keep the whole archive.

How far ahead should I book?

Three months for weddings and bar mitzvahs. A brit can usually be arranged at short notice.

What happens if it rains?

We move the date at no cost, or shoot indoors. We decide together the day before.
